SPONSORS RADIO SERIES, cont.: Sheridan's "The Rivals", Poe's "Fall of the House of Usher", Dickens' "Oliver Twist", and a transcription of "The Cost of Freedom" to be used preceding the arrival of the Freedom Train in July. In alternate weeks, there were faculty programs and panel discussions: "V.U. In The Community", Dean Livingstone; "The United Nations Charter", George E. Ray; "Speak Up Vincennes" weekly panel discussions, George E. Ray, moderator; "History of V.U. ", President Davis; round table discussions by Prof. Leighly's chemistry students and Hilda Begeman's physics students, St. Patrick's Day Legends and Irish Folk Songs, Grace Driver, Librarian; an original biographical play about James Whitcomb Riley, Mary L. Jordan and the University Players' Guild; Living interpretation of poems, Cornelia Carter with her English students and the University Chorus; Songs in French and Spanish, Dr. Lillyan McCarty; a panel discussion on zoology's application to life in Knox County, Charles E. Haggard and his zoology students; and "Statistics and Information about the University", Medrith Jordan, Registrar. HARRISON DISCUSSION CONTEST: The annual Harrison Discussion Contest was overseen by Mrs. Orrelle Cornelius, English Department, who chose the topic, "World Peace and Its Possibilities and Hindrances" to be judged in Preliminaries by Prof. Livingstone, Prof. Haggard, Prof. Ray, and Carter. Prizes totaling $50.00 are awarded to the two winners. Participants: Ralph Allen, Kenneth Butler, Paul Catt, Alfreda Costerian, James Duncan, Verne Fraker, James Lasher, Don Murray, Deonard Rose. Finalists: Ralph Allen, James Duncan, Don Murray, who will present their speeches at a convocation and compete in finals, the winner of which will be selected by judges chosen from outside the college. COMMENCEMENT SPEAKERS: Dr. M.O. Ross, President of Butler University, will give the Commencement Address, Friday, June 4, 1948, 8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. The Baccalaureate service-will be at the First Christian Church with Dr. G.O. Carpenter of the First Methodist Church. Commencement will be one of the largest in the history of the school, with 68 receiving diplomas and being awarded degrees. COMMENCEMENT CALENDAR: Harrison Discussion Contest; Athletic Awards, First Baptist Church; Seniors & Wives Reception, hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Davis, 1513 Old Orchard Rd; Baccalaureate Service, First Baptist Church; Alumni Day Band & Chorus Concert, Gregg Park Band Shell; Alumni Picnic, Gregg Park Shelter House; Formal Dance, Fortnightly Club with the Bob Risch Orchestra; Commencement, First Baptistic Church; Reception, Vincennes University.
