Board, the successful legislation, the establishment of a permanent fund in 1846, the addition of a female Dept. in 1856, the consolidation of schools in 1870, and the present institution's status as corresponding to the most advanced High Schools and Academies, with opportunities for more advanced courses. NEW BUILDING: Erected in 1879, the new building has school-room for 200 students, rooms for a cabinet and a library, a third story hall with a capacity of 400-500 people, furniture, warming and ventilation. Right page: STUDIES: Describes opportunities for knowledge of language and science, the Preparatory department, and the Academic department's choice of Classical or Scientific study, with exercises in Rhetoric and Composition throughout the entire course. ADMISSION: Describes requirements: age twelve or over and able to work arithmetic through fractions, parse words, and answer questions in elementary geography. TUITION: No admission charged in Academic department, three dollars per term for Preparatory department, half tuition for children of ministers. EXAMINATIONS & REPORTS: Describes frequent examinations, record of daily recitations, class standings, reports of standing in studies and deportment to parents every four weeks, and certificates of promotion.
