's courses are designed for students who desire a thorough, practical, and liberal education yet do not have the desire or opportunity to spend four years in a college course; the belief that our courses meet the needs of the businessman, the teacher, the pursuer of a profession; the need for thorough training in a shorter, practical way; the current tendency to pursue either a short, general study or a long, deeper study; the omission of Mental, Moral, and Political Philosophy. Right page: MISCELLANEOUS: VINCENNES UNIVERSITY HISTORY: Description of the land grant, first Board of Trustees in 1807, building construction, school opening, lawsuit against the State of Indiana in 1846 to regain the land, and the Supreme Court judgement in favor of Vincennes University, with a sixty-thousand dollar sum that formed the beginnings of an endowment. LOCATION: Description of Vincennes' advantages, population, railroad availability, drainage, cleanliness, citizenry, improvements, and suitability of Vincennes to be the center of educational interests. THE UNIVERSITY BUILDING: Describes the University Building's location at the corner of Fifth and Busseron Streets, the building's contents: Recitation Rooms, Library, Laboratory, Auditorium, Cloak Rooms, Closets, Office, sufficient to accommodate 300 students, along with high ceilings, numerous registers, large windows, and baseburner heat.
