Army, to supply an annual gold medal (valued at $25) for excellence in oratory; gives Faculty rules for the contest; lists results of the first contest, held on February 27, 1885, Hon. N. F. Malott, Prof. Edward Taylor, and W. C. Niblack judges, awarding the Gould Medal to Joseph C. Bryan. GENERAL REMARKS by Enoch A. Bryan, President: prospering of the University, increase of 15 percent in enrollment, uniform and progressive work, confidence in claims to a high place among educational institutions of the state; comparing favorably in thoroughness, attractiveness and cheapness with any similar institution; filling a need for middle class schools where graded schools, high schools, and colleges are numerous.
