Describes history and equipment of the Department, including Lieut. Van Vliet being transferred to David's Island, New York Harbor. Right page: MILITARY SCIENCE & TACTICS, cont.: Describes 2nd Lieut. Kemp taking charge in October 1893, addition of sabres from the War Dept. in 1894, the new Armory in Rm. 10, an increase to 69 men in the company, enthusiasm, and classes: two hours drill and one hour instruction each week: REQUIREMENTS: Describes requirement of all male members of the University including the Preparatory School unless excused. UNIFORMS: Describes requirement of providing themselves with the cadet uniform, describes the coat, pantaloons and cap; suggests wearing them instead of school suits to save money and destroy the distinction of dress from inequality of wealth. ADVANTAGES: Describes advantages of the department, including exercise, drill, manly carriage, firm movement, greater care of personal appearance, knowledge gained.
