Text: This was the home of Jefferson Academy from its organization in 1801, until it was absorbed by Vincennes University in 1811. It was on the southern edge of the present campus, near the Harrison Mansion, and contained two small classrooms. It was torn down soon after the Civil War. Staff Text: Describes responsibilities of staff. Bottom picture: Vincennes University building from 1807 to 1839, on land now bounded by Fifth, Perry, Sixth, and Hart Streets; including a two and a half story brick building and the first medical school in Indiana. The land was purchased by the Bishop of Vincennes and used as a Catholic college, an orphanage, and St. Rose Academy.
